MiddleBrook Pharmaceuticals, Inc. set out to apply our discovery that pulsatile dosing of antibiotic appears to elimate bacteria more efficiently.

The result was PULSYS. The proprietary PULSYS technology enables a single antibiotic dose to generate a progression of staggered pulses, achieving optimal drug levels—and antibacterial activity.

Utilizing PULSYS, we are applying our discovery to create more efficient, effective products that are designed to deliver advantages like once-daily dosing, lower dosage concentrations, and shorter therapy durations. Our proprietary design system enables us to evaluate the properties of antibiotics, select those best suited for enhancement via the PULSYS drug delivery technology, and create unique timing and composition profiles for our pulsatile drug versions.

How does PULSYS work?
The typical PULSYS drug delivery format is a tablet containing multiple pellets with different release profiles. The pellets are formulated in a proportion that delivers optimal antibiotic levels. While the tablet format facilitates significant convenience and cost advantages, PULSYS products can be presented in additional formats to meet specific needs, such as the sprinkle form for pediatrics.
